Solar Panel Repairs in Brisbane
Fault diagnosis and repairs on residential and commercial solar across South East Queensland, including systems we did not install. What we repair, how a repair visit works, and when replacing beats fixing.
A solar system rarely fails outright. It usually fades: an inverter that trips on hot afternoons, a string that stopped reporting months ago, a bill that crept back up without anyone connecting the two. By the time most people call, the system has been underperforming for a season or more.
We diagnose and repair residential and commercial solar across Brisbane, including systems we did not install.
What we repair
- Inverter faults. Error codes, shutdowns, tripping, isolation faults and units that have stopped communicating.
- Strings that have dropped out. A string offline on a multi-string system often shows up as nothing more than a lower bill saving, because the system keeps running on what is left.
- DC isolators and connectors. Rooftop isolators and MC4 connectors are the most weather-exposed parts of a solar system and a well-known failure point in Queensland conditions.
- Cabling, conduit and switchboard faults. Including damage from heat, UV, vermin and water ingress.
- Monitoring that has stopped reporting. Sometimes a genuine fault, often a router change nobody linked to the solar.
- Panel damage. Cracked glass, delamination, hot spots and shading from vegetation that has grown since installation.
- Safety and compliance faults. Wiring, isolators, earthing and labelling brought back to standard.
Systems we did not install
Most repair calls we take are on systems installed by someone else, frequently by a company that is no longer trading. That is normal in Australian solar and it is not an obstacle.
What it does change is the starting point. On an unfamiliar system we establish what is actually there before quoting any work: panel and inverter make and model, string configuration, isolator condition, switchboard capacity and whether the original installation still meets standard. Some of what we find is a simple fix. Some of it is an installation that was never compliant.
We will tell you which of those you have.
Common faults we find in Brisbane
Queensland conditions produce a fairly predictable set of problems. Heat shortens the life of electronics, so inverters here tend not to reach the service life they would in a cooler state. Airborne dust and, closer to the bay, salt mist build up on glass and reduce output gradually enough that nobody notices. Summer storms drive water into enclosures that were never sealed properly. Birds nest under panel arrays and chew cabling.
Dust, salt and connection faults together can account for a significant share of lost output on a neglected system, which is why a performance check is usually the first thing worth doing.
How a repair visit works
- Diagnostics on site. Electrical testing, string-level measurement, inverter interrogation and a physical inspection of the array, isolators and switchboard.
- A written finding. What has failed, why, and what the repair involves. If there is more than one fault you get all of them, not just the one you called about.
- A fixed quote for the repair. Itemised, so you can see parts separately from labour.
- Repair and retest. The system is tested on completion and compliance paperwork issued where the work requires it.
We do not quote repairs over the phone. Diagnosing a fault remotely from a description of a blinking light is guesswork, and guesswork is how people end up paying for an inverter they did not need.
Repair or replace
Not every fault is worth fixing. An inverter failure on a ten-year-old system is a genuine decision rather than an automatic repair, because the replacement cost can be a large fraction of what a new and considerably better system would cost, and because a system that old was designed for export tariffs that no longer exist.
The reverse is also true. A system with a single failed isolator does not need replacing, whatever anyone tells you, and an installer who responds to every fault by quoting a new system is not diagnosing anything.
If replacement genuinely is the better option, our Brisbane solar installation cost guide sets out current installed prices, and adding storage at the same time is covered in our battery storage guide.
What we are accredited to do
Repair work on a solar system is electrical work, and a good deal of it is work on live DC, which is why accreditation matters more here than almost anywhere else.
- SAA accredited installer. Installer accreditation moved from the Clean Energy Council to Solar Accreditation Australia in 2024.
- Clean Energy Council Approved Solar Retailer. A separate voluntary standard covering how a company sells, quotes and handles after-sales service.
- Licensed electrical work. All work carried out under licence, with a certificate of electrical safety issued where applicable.
- Energex approvals handled where a repair or upgrade changes your connection arrangement.
Ask for an accreditation number and verify it. That applies to us as much as to anyone.
Where we work
We are based at 4/38 Limestone Street, Darra, and work across Brisbane and South East Queensland, including the inner west, the southside, Moreton Bay, Redlands, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.
More on our accreditations and how we quote, and on scheduled servicing if what you need is maintenance rather than a repair.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will you repair a system you did not install?
Yes. Most of our repair work is on systems installed by other companies, including ones that have since closed. We establish what is on the roof before quoting any work.
My solar is producing less than it used to. Is that a fault?
Often, yes. Gradual decline is usually soiling or a string that has dropped offline, and both are easy to miss because the system keeps generating. A performance check will tell you whether what you are seeing is normal degradation or a fault.
My inverter is showing an error code. What should I do?
Note the code and the make and model, and do not keep resetting it. Repeated restarts on a fault condition can turn a repairable problem into a replacement. Switching off at the AC isolator is safe; leave the DC side alone.
Can you repair a system whose installer has gone out of business?
Yes, and it is common. Your manufacturer warranties on panels and inverter may still be valid even though the installer is gone, so it is worth finding your original paperwork before assuming you have to pay for everything.
Do you charge to diagnose a fault?
Diagnostics are carried out on site and quoted before we attend. We do not give repair prices over the phone, because a fault cannot be identified from a description of a warning light.
