Most battery quotes in Brisbane compare the same three things: capacity in kilowatt-hours, a brand, and a price. None of those tell you whether the battery will be sized to how your household actually uses power, whether it can be retrofitted to the solar you already have, or who handles the warranty claim in year six.

This page sets out what we are accredited to install, how we size and quote a battery, and the installs you can check for yourself.

What we are accredited to install

Installer accreditation in Australia moved from the Clean Energy Council to Solar Accreditation Australia in 2024. The Clean Energy Council still maintains the approved product lists that determine which batteries qualify for federal incentives, but the person installing it is accredited by SAA.

• SAA accredited installer. The accreditation that allows your system to claim Small-scale Technology Certificates.
• Sigenergy Gold Installer. Manufacturer-level certification for the battery platform we install most. It matters for warranty handling and firmware support, which is where most battery problems are actually resolved.
• Clean Energy Council Approved Solar Retailer. A separate voluntary standard covering how a company sells, quotes and handles after-sales service, not just how it installs.
• Licensed electrical work. All electrical work carried out under licence, with your certificate of electrical safety issued on completion.
• 12-year workmanship warranty. Separate from the manufacturer warranty on the battery itself. This is the one covering the installation: mounting, cabling, isolation and labour.
• Energex approvals handled. Grid connection applications, export limits and metering arrangements are our job, not yours.

Ask any installer for their accreditation number and verify it. A good installer will answer without hesitation.

Batteries we install

We are a solar and battery specialist rather than a general electrical contractor who also fits batteries. The two systems we are asked about most are the ones we install most.

Adding a battery to solar you already have

Most of the battery work we do in Brisbane is a retrofit rather than a new system, and it is a different job from installing both at once.

A retrofit is usually AC coupled, which means the battery has its own inverter and sits alongside your existing solar inverter rather than replacing it. Your original system keeps working as it is. What has to be checked on site is switchboard capacity, available space, the age and condition of the existing inverter, and whether your current export arrangement with Energex still suits how the system will run once a battery is added.

We service and maintain systems we did not install, so an unfamiliar inverter or an installer who is no longer trading is not an obstacle.

How we size a battery

Battery sizing is driven by your consumption pattern, not by your roof or by the size of your solar system. Two homes with identical solar can need very different batteries.

What we look at is when you use power rather than how much. A household that is empty until 6pm and then runs everything at once has a different requirement from one with someone home all day. We read your bills and usage data against your current tariff, and for businesses we work from interval data.

Oversizing is the more common and more expensive mistake. A battery that never empties is capacity you paid for and will not use.

How we quote

We do not give battery prices over the phone. Switchboard condition and available space are the two most common causes of a quoted price changing later, and neither can be assessed remotely.

• Site inspection. Switchboard, existing inverter, cable routes, meter position and mounting location, on site.
• Design to your consumption. Your usage pattern read against your tariff, not a capacity pulled off a price list.
• Fixed itemised quote. Battery make, model and capacity stated. Any incentive shown as its own line so you can see the gross and net price. Warranties split out.
• Approvals and installation. Energex application lodged by us, installation scheduled, compliance paperwork issued on completion.

Being local matters more for batteries than for panels. A battery is a piece of electronics that receives firmware updates and occasionally needs attention on site. An installer who has to travel three hours to look at it will find reasons not to.

Can I add a battery to solar installed by someone else?

Yes. Most of our battery work is retrofitting to existing solar, including systems we did not install. The retrofit is normally AC coupled, so your original solar inverter stays in place and keeps working.

Will a battery keep my power on during a blackout?

Only if the system is specified for it. Backup during an outage requires particular equipment and wiring, and which circuits stay live is a decision made at design stage. Tell us at the site inspection if this matters to you, because it changes the specification.

How long does a battery installation take?

A straightforward retrofit is usually a single day on site. Timing end to end depends on Energex approval rather than on the installation itself.

What size battery do I need?
