The Story
This Brisbane homeowner had just taken delivery of an electric vehicle on a novated lease, and had been smart about it: he asked the leasing company to bundle a 12kW DC EV charger into the package alongside the car. Bundling the charger into the lease means paying for it with pre-tax dollars.
He already had a Sigenergy battery system on the wall, installed by another company, and that experience had not gone well. When it came time to add the charger he came to Connect Energy instead. We were happy to take it on even though the original system was not ours. The Sigenergy platform supports DC EV charging natively, so integrating the charger was straightforward.
Brett and the team had it mounted, wired and operational in about twenty minutes, the day before the new car arrived.
“Great service from enquiry through to install from Connect Energy, very professional team and company. I just wish I used them for my initial Sigenergy battery install. The other company I went with has been a nightmare to deal with!”
We love these jobs. The client had done the hard yards getting the battery in, then made a clever call bundling the DC charger into his novated lease. All we had to do was mount it, wire it into the existing Sigenergy system and get the two talking. Twenty minutes and he was ready to charge. It is always satisfying when an install just clicks into place like that.

The Solution
Connect Energy retrofitted a 12kW Sigenergy DC EV charger to the homeowner’s existing Sigenergy battery system. DC charging from a home battery is more efficient than a standard AC wall charger, because the power runs straight from the battery to the vehicle without a conversion step in between.
Why DC charging from a home battery?
Most home EV chargers are AC, which means the car’s onboard converter has to do the work of turning that power into something the vehicle battery can store. A DC charger skips that step and pushes power straight into the car. With solar on the roof and a Sigenergy battery in the garage, this setup lets the owner charge the car on stored sunshine at the highest available efficiency.
Through the day the panels fill the battery. In the evening the battery fills the car. The grid barely gets a look in.
